Esztergom is a small town, about 46 km north-west of the capital Budapest. It's located in Komárom – Esztergom country, on the right bank of the river Danube, which forms the border with Slovakia there.

The Mária Valéria Bridge connects Esztergom with the town on the other side of the river, Štúrovo which is actually already in Slovakia.

Esztergom was the capital of Hungary from the 10th till the mid-13th century and it was the Royal Seat till the mid-13th century when King Béla IV of Hungary moved the royal seat to Buda. Esztergom is the seat of the prímás of the Roman Catholic Church in Hungary. The city has the Keresztény Museum (Christian Museum), the largest ecclesiastical collection in Hungary. Its wonderful cathedral, the Basilica is the largest church in Hungary.
